Inajo Davis Chappell

A graduate of Yale University (B.A., 1982) and Columbia Law School (J.D., 1985), Inajo Davis Chappell chairs Ulmer & Berne’s Nonprofit Group. She represents for-profit businesses as well as public institutions and nonprofit entities. Her legal expertise focuses on various aspects of corporate law and corporate governance, general business transactions, and commercial real estate acquisition, development, construction and financing. Chappell has served as bond and company counsel to a variety of government and corporate clients. She has particular expertise representing school districts in the provision of educational programming and services to disabled students. In 2007, she was named an “Ohio Super Lawyer” in a survey conducted by Law & Politics and Cincinnati magazines.

Born in New Orleans, Chappell grew up in East Cleveland and attended Hathaway Brown. Both of her parents were music teachers in the Cleveland school system. For five years she worked as in-house counsel to the business unit of the Cleveland Municipal School District. An active civic and community volunteer and leader, Chappell is a member of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections and serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
